Five people are dead after a truck and car collided north of Tauranga.
The accident happened on State Highway 2 in Aongātete, near Dawson Road, at 8:15pm on Tuesday.
State Highway 2 is closed to traffic flowing in both directions between Morton Road and Thompson's Track.
Motorists driving to Tauranga from Waikato, Auckland or Coromandel cannot go through Waihi. Instead, they should drive via the Kaimai Summit or Rotorua.
The Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit are at the scene.
