Schools and youth facilities in Hawke's Bay have been hit with burglaries in the first two days of the September school holidays.

Police say most of the items taken were electrical, such as laptops and cameras were taken.

Thieves also caused damage to each premises, adding to the cost of replacements.

As a precaution police urge schools and youth facilities to appropriately store or remove electrical items for protection.

Police encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 111.
