The Block's first-ever winner Ben Crawford up for award with new project

If you're the sort of person who suffers house envy or intense jealousy of other people's trendy homes, you may want to make a cup of tea before watching this story.

You may remember Ben Crawford who won the first-ever season of The Block along with his sister Libby but Story caught up with Mr Crawford for a different reason - his new project.

He's one of the finalists for the Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

Ben Crawford and his wife Kylie built their own home and the three-bedroom and two-bathroom house is up for the New Build $500,000 to $600,000 category.

Construction took six months and the competition is all about the build. Sixty-five percent of the marks are for craftsmanship and 35 percent is for the design.

The awards will be held this weekend.
