One person has been killed and three others injured after a water tragedy in the Northland town of Waiharara.
Emergency crews raced to the scene just before 4pm on Wednesday after reports of children in distress in the water.
St John says one person is dead and three others have been treated for minor injuries.
It is not clear if the deceased is a child.
