John Key was advised not to do anything hasty this morning - but he either missed the warning, or ignored it.
It was in the stars - Leos were told: "This is not a day to buy or sell anything in haste". Presumably that also includes giving it away.
But Mr Key clearly saw something else written in his future.
He announced his resignation at a press conference in Parliament on Monday. He has held the Helensville electorate since 2002 and as the party's leader since 2006.
"Throughout these years I've given everything to this job, the job that I cherish and for the country I love."
Mr Key says it was one of the hardest decisions he has ever had to make.
He says he doesn't have any plans and the pressure on his family, and the sacrifices they've made, is one of the reasons he has decided to step down.
He sat down with Story to talk all about it.
