Ali Williams charged after cocaine bust - report

Ex-All Black Ali Williams has been charged following his arrest at the weekend in Paris.

Williams, 35, was caught allegedly buying cocaine outside a nightclub in the French capital. Police said he was seen in a car with two drug dealers, while former Wallabies international James O'Connor acted as a lookout.

Williams allegedly tried to throw the cocaine away once he realised the police were interested in their activities.

AFP, a French news agency, reports Williams has been charged with buying cocaine, while O'Connor will have to pay a fine for possession - a lesser charge.

O'Connor will need to sign a document and then pay the fee for his role in the incident.

Williams tested negative for drugs, but O'Connor did not.

Ian Bortwick, a Kiwi consultant for Racing 92 team in France, says he's had no official word on what will come of former William's career.

He told Newshub Williams plans to plead not guilty, and the case against him isn't straightforward.

"I've had the information Ali Williams tested negative for any drugs, when he was tested after the arrest."

A judicial source said both players were drunk at the time of their arrest and were not carrying identification papers. The source added that they were attempting to buy drugs worth about $200 and that the two sellers were also arrested.

Williams currently plays with French club Racing 92, while O'Connor, 26, plays for Toulon.

Racing 92 suspended Williams over the incident.

Williams played for the All Blacks 77 times in his decade-long international career, which ended in 2012.

O'Connor earned 44 caps with the Wallabies between 2008 and 2013.

The arrests came less than two weeks after former All Black Dan Carter was caught drink driving, also in Paris.
