Police are investigating a report of a 14-year-old girl who was sexually violated on a West Coast track last month.
They received a report on Friday the girl was attacked on the West Coast wilderness trail in the Blaketown area, behind the BMX park and near the aerodome around 5pm on January 16.
She was walking south when she was attacked from behind by an unknown man and sexually violated in an area off the track.
Greymouth police want to hear from anyone with information, especially if they saw a man behaving suspiciously in the area at the time, or a young woman running in the area between the wilderness trail and New World on that evening.
She wasn't wearing running gear which some may have thought was odd.
Police are working closely with the victim and her family, and are increasing their patrols in the area but urge people to remain vigilant.
They say any information, even if it is minor, could be vital to the investigation and those with information should call (03) 768 2611.
