A car and a house have gone up in smoke overnight in the west Auckland suburb of Massey.

Firefighters were called to Reverie Place just after 1.30am on Tuesday and are treating the fire as suspicious.

The fire was described as well ablaze, requiring five fire crews to battle the blaze initially, with one crew staying overnight.

Investigators have also been to the scene to work out how it started.

A fire spokesperson says the first calls that came in said that it was a carport on fire, so she thinks a car may have been inside the carport.

She says she doesn't know what state the house is in this morning, but expects it to be well burnt out.

Meanwhile, two fire crews also battled a garage fire in on Hywel Place in Manurewa just after midnight early Tuesday morning.

Two fire trucks worked to put out the fire.
