The Fire Service is dealing with multiple flooding callouts in Auckland as the rain continues to pour down.

They've responded to 50 weather-related calls in Auckland on Friday night so far.

Heavy storms have already brought devastation to parts of Northland and the Coromondel Peninsula, and the MetService is warning the severe weather will continue over the weekend.

"Further rain is expected over the North Island tonight and Saturday, with heavy falls at times and possible thunderstorms, especially in the north," MetService says.

"A Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and Northwest Nelson."

Footage from the Auckland suburb of Remuera shows a street virtually turned into a river. Cars are partially submerged as the rain continues to pour.

A Fire Service spokesperson said they were dealing with multiple callouts to flooding.

"The Fire Service is there diverting water or giving advice," a Fire Service spokesperson said.

"There has been some flooding into some properties but it's not life threatening."

Countdown Te Atatu South duty manager Ben Bueter said rain had leaked from the roof over the entire perishable aisle, leaving it flooded.

"There's been some cracking in the walls, and there is also some structural damage above the checkouts," he said.

They are cleaning up and will be back open at the usual time tomorrow morning, he said.

Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management has issued a warning to motorists.

"The rain has started to come down in the Auckland region, remember to drive to the conditions and not through flood water," they say.
