Man films Auckland synthetic cannabis stupor trio acting 'weird'

The man who shot the video of three young men allegedly stoned on synthetic cannabis in an Auckland park has told Newshub how he helped save one of the men's life.

Patea Randall had just dropped off his kids at daycare when he witnessed the events, and started filming.

"We were sitting there watching them. The young guy that was lying down, he was standing up, the other two were standing on the bench at that time," he told Newshub.

"We didn't realise what they were doing until I noticed the young guy that had fell down, he was walking like how babies do their first steps - baby steps."

The video was shot directly opposite a playground in broad daylight in Rata Village in the west Auckland suburb of New Lynn.

"He started walking very weird, so we sat there and watched them, not realising they had been smoking synthetics. And then he fell back," Mr Randall says.

"That's when we started to walk around and I started recording, not realising they were on stuff until we got close and saw stuff coming out of his mouth. So we decided to turn him over ."

The video shows two of the group are sitting on a park bench while a third man lies on the ground nearby, foaming at the mouth.

The events left Mr Randall horrified.

"It was like he wasn't there. Eyes open. He just wasn't there," he says.
