New super 3D way to watch a movie

A new form of screen for movies wraps you in a 3D world so realistic you could even meet Elvis.

The days may be numbered for the old cinema projector, even the digital ones.

"Describe it as a turning point in communication and entertainment. It is the next entertainment format," says Richard Taylor II.

Mr Taylor II is a long time Hollywood special effects director.

He designed the USS Enterprise in the first Star Trek Movie.

His current project is Ey-merce, a wraparound LED screen that can house 20 people for a photorealistic 3D experience using glasses but not  bulky headsets.

"One of my main goals is to make photo real human beings standing there human scale that you absolutely believe are real," he says.

The movie Avatar re-invigorated 3D for the silver screen but Taylor believes that's as far as it goes using a projector.

"You have edge violation. When things get too close they get cut off and the illusion goes away. With Ey-merce, there is no edge of the screen."

It looks circular because it plays on LED screens constructed as cylinders or domes.

The first Ey-Merce screen should be finished by the end of 2017 and the developers believe one day it will be as common as the TV in everyone's lounge.
