Police believe the man who died following a brawl outside a south Auckland pub suffered a medical event.

The 60-year-old died yesterday in Middlemore Hospital. He'd been involved in a fight on Great South Rd in Papakura earlier that morning.

Two men arrested in connection to the assault have been released after inquiries found the man died of natural causes.

No charges will be laid.

It's believed the man was trying to break up the fight, which happened outside a bar.

Police are expected to release his name Sunday afternoon.
