Queues are forming outside Area 51 in Wellington two days before the latest pair of Kanye West's famous footwear range goes on sale.

The new colourway of Yeezy 350 Boost will be sold from Saturday at the Cuba Street clothing store. Yeezys are a sneaker collaboration between Adidas and rapper Kanye West and cost $390.

Keith Downie is at the front of the queue and arrived at 11am on Thursday. "I'm queuing so I can purchase a pair of shoes on Saturday morning."

The rules of purchase are strict, only one pair person. Fans can also enter a raffle to win the right to buy a pair of shoes, rather than wait in the queue.

"If I queue, I'm guaranteed", Mr Downie said.

"They're just really limited, I find them very attractive.  I've got a couple of other pairs and I'm going to add to my selection", he said.

But he's not wearing his Yeezys to queue up. "Today I'm wearing Jordans because they're a bit warmer."

Rain is expected on Thursday with a gusty southerly developing. "I've got a chair and some blankets coming down later", Mr Downie said.

Self-confessed "sneaker-head" David Toh has entered the raffle. "They release them in limited quantities, which builds up the hype and makes people want to buy them more". He estimates that each store will sell around 150 pairs, and he already owns black Yeezys but wants the new white colourway.

Area 51 Manager Emily Wakeling said Adidas prevents retailers from disclosing how many pairs of the shoes would be arriving in the store.
