A fisherman has died near a Bay of Plenty river mouth on Sunday afternoon.
The man was at the mouth of Kaituna River, Paengaroa, around 600m down the beach when he was pulled from the water by members of the public at around 1:30pm.
Despite attempts at CPR, he died.
The cause of the death is yet to be established and the man's next of kin are being informed, police say in a statement.
