Police have seized more than $1.2 million worth of methamphetamine from the streets of Tasman.

According to Fairfax, police stopped a car in Murchison on June 23 where they located 1.2kg of crystal meth.

Two people were arrested who had already appeared in the Nelson District Court on the same day. The pair will reappear at a later date.

Police say it is good for the community to have the drugs off of the streets.

"It's well known the carnage the drug causes within our communities and that we remain dedicated to fighting it," Detective Sergeant Chris Roberts told Fairfax.

"All the evidence is that it's highly addictive. The common saying out there is that meth stands for 'my entry to hell'."

Mr Roberts added the majority of product coming into Nelson was ready to sell.

"We're dealing with people who have addiction to [the drug] being involved."

In April, six people were arrested for methamphetamine offences after a raid on a number of properties in Porirua near Wellington.

A four month investigation targeted the supply of methamphetamine by members of the Porirua Mongrel Mob.

Police uncovered around $450,000 in cash, 10 firearms and two stolen motorbikes worth $30,000.
