Boys' choir striking the right chord

Singing in the school choir used to be considered a little uncool, especially for boys. But that's no longer the case at Christchurch's Burnside High.

The school boys' choir has found its voice, with 108 teenage boys signing up to sing their hearts out.

They're warming up for opening night of their South Island tour inside Christchurch's Transitional Cathedral.

After that they're hitting the road to tour Queenstown, Dunedin and Alexandra.

"It's really good fun, a lot of laughter, and a lot of banter amongst the guys," one choir member says.

"I think when you put a bunch of boys in a room you get something really special," another says.

It's one of the biggest choirs in the country, and growing. Eight years ago there were only 18 boys signed up.

A sign the perception of boys singing in the schoolyard is changing.
