Diversions are in place on a section of State Highway 1 around the Otago town of Herbert after a house went up in flames.
Firefighters are now dampening down hotspots after the blaze broke early on Monday morning.
A fire spokesman said no one's been found in the house or reported missing.
It's being treated as suspicious and an investigator is due at the scene later on Monday morning.
