A passenger has died after the driver of a car fled police as they tried to pull him over in Cambridge.
Police received a complaint about the driving and tried to stop the vehicle at 6:45pm on Wednesday.
A brief pursuit followed, ending when the car crashed on Scott St near the intersection with Moore St.
One passenger died at the scene, while the driver received moderate injuries.
Another passenger sustained critical injuries and has been taken to Waikato Hospital.
The driver is currently speaking with police.
The road is closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
