Video has emerged of Chinese students at a respected North Shore high school being verbally and physically harassed.

The footage, posted on Chinese social media platform WeChat, shows Pākehā Westlake Boys High School students punching a Chinese student and telling him to go home to "Ching Chong-landia".

Bullying at the hands of the students is not the only recent incident at the school.

Fairfax reports it is alleged that a teacher called students "idiots" with "rich parents" and told them to go back to their own country.

Both incidents have now been widely reported in Chinese media and amassed thousands of comments.

Speaking to Fairfax, Westlake Boys High School principal David Ferguson confirmed that he was aware of the incidents.

Mr Ferguson went on to explain "Our school has high expectations of all of our young men and all of our staff. Our goal always is to provide a safe and inclusive environment based on respect for all cultures so that all of our students without exception can be successful."

He said disciplinary action had been taken against both the staff member and the students, and that they "do not believe that there is any chance of a similar mistake being made again".
