A Christchurch home was destroyed in a fire early on Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Macaulay St in Addington around 2:25am.

It was initially feared three people were trapped inside, however everyone's been accounted for.

Fire crews also managed to save the property next door, which was in danger of catching alight.

The cause of the blaze is being treated as unexplained and a specialist fire investigator will be looking into it on Saturday.
