An online fundraiser has raised more than $20,000 to help a New Zealand family bring their daughter home after she died while in the UK.

A Givealittle page has been set up for Toni Kelly, who, acording to the page, had a fatal accident while living in London.

A friend of the Kelly family set up the crowd funding page called "Bring our Toni home."

Any money raised will be donated to the Kelly family.

If a New Zealand citizen dies overseas the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade provides advice, but any costs must be paid for by the family.

When contacted for comment MFAT told Newshub: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family.  Due to privacy considerations we are unable to provide any further information."

Sports co-ordinator at Dargaville High School Christine Taylor told the New Zealand Herald Toni - who attended the school from Year 11 or 12 - would be "sorely missed".

"She was a very outgoing, easy to get along with and happy go lucky girl," Taylor said.

People can donate to the Givealittle page.
