A gunman might be on the loose in Papakura, but police don't believe he's a risk to the public.
Police responded on Friday night to reports of a shot being fired on Short St at about 7:26pm.
They had a person of interest in mind, but could not locate him.
"Police have some firm lines of inquiry to follow up and these are ongoing this morning," police said in a statement.
"Police believe there is no risk to the public and no one has reported any injuries in relation to this."
Cordons were briefly in place around the scene.
