Man drowns at Aramoana Beach near Dunedin

Police have confirmed a man has drowned at Aramoana Beach just north of Dunedin.

Police and ambulance were called at around 2:30pm on Saturday to reports that a man was in trouble in the water.

Police said in a statement the man was brought from the water and given medical attention but unfortunately was unable to be revived.

Police say they have referred the death to the coroner.

This follows a recent drowning on Friday afternoon at Whangamatā Beach north of Tauranga.
