A student has suddenly died at a south Auckland high school.

The incident occurred at Kia Aroha College in the suburb of Clover Park on Friday morning.

The principal Haley Milne confirmed that a male student had tragically passed away in a post on the school's Facebook page.

"Our beautiful tama… has passed away at our school today," the post said.

"We are currently sending all of our young people home while we wait for the details of his tangi."

The school has been closed in the meantime and a school marae will take place this evening.

St John confirmed they were called to the incident at 9:28am on Friday. They sent one ambulance, one rapid response unit and a manger to respond to the scene.

A police spokesperson said officers are currently still present at the school.

"This is an understandably a tragic event however Police can advise that at this stage, there are no suspicious circumstances."

"We will be working to ensure there is support available for this person's family."
