Emergency services have extinguished a car fire on Kopu Hikuai Hill in the Coromandel that sent thick black smoke into the air.

Fire and Emergency were called to the incident at 1:25pm and arrived at the scene at 1:51pm on Monday, a spokesperson told Newshub.

A video sent to Newshub shows the entire front of the ute engulfed in bright orange flames that sent thick black smoke billowing into the air.

The ute was also towing a 4x4 motorbike.

A police spokesperson said the fire blocked some lanes on the road. Coromandel's CFM reported on Facebook that traffic had been reduced to one lane near the scene.

Fire and Emergency have since left the scene and told Newshub that no one was injured.
