Prices have fallen at the latest GlobalDairyTrade (GDT) auction and that has prompted a fall in the value of the New Zealand dollar.

The GDT Price Index fell 7.4 percent to an average of US$2569 per metric tonne. Both whole milk power and skim milk powder prices fell by 8 percent.

The Kiwi was trading at 66.75 US cents at 6am, compared to 67.39 cents at 5pm yesterday.

There is another announcement later this morning which will also be closely watched by the currency markets.

The latest employment numbers will be released. Some economists believe the unemployment rate will rise to 6 percent.
