Calls to make desexing cats mandatory

Wellingtonians wanting to own more than three cats may have to ask the council for permission first.

The council's environment committee will be presented with a proposed animal bylaw, capping the number of cats a person can own without council consent.

Anyone wanting to have more than three cats will need council’s permission.

Carolyn Press-Mckenzie, founder of animal shelter HUHA, is an avid cat-lover who herself owns 7 cats, says the council’s focus is wrong and it should be encouraging desexing.
