Serena Williams has brushed off the poor form which plagued her at the ASB Classic to down Belinda Bencic 6-4,6-3 in her opening match at the Australian Open.
A six-time champion in Melbourne, Williams coasted early but had some difficulty closing out the final set against the determined Slovakian, ultimately proving too powerful as she closed out the contest in one hour and 19 minutes.
The second-seeded American will advance to face Lucie Sarafova in the final 64.
