Highlights: Kiwi IndyCar ace Scott Dixon finishes third at Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida

Kiwi IndyCar driver Scott Dixon has started his 2017 season in solid fashion with a podium finish at the Grand Prix of St Petersburg in Florida.

The four-time series champion started on the front-row, but had a day of mixed fortunes as he constantly had to fight back from the mid-pack after unfortunate timings with cautions and his pit strategy.

At one point Dixon found himself in 14th, but he managed to charge his way back through the field to eventually finish 3rd.

The New Zealander is notoriously a slow starter early in the season but this result, along with the clear pace that his Honda powered Chip Ganassi Racing car showed throughout the weekend, will give the 36-year-old confidence he can have a winning season.

"The car was fast today, we definitely  had some speed, we made a lot of spots back up, so it was a nice recovery for third spot, Dixon said after the race.
