Lydia Ko parts ways with caddie Gary Matthews

Lydia Ko's up and down season just took another swing with the news she has parted ways with her caddie of just nine tournaments, Gary Matthews.

The 19-year-old's management team confirmed the breakup on the Golf Channel.

The world No.1 had a fine performance in Hawaii on the weekend, shooting a combined 129 on her last two rounds to finish second at the Lotte Championships. But that will prove to be her last with Matthews on the bag.

The result in Hawaii was her fifth top 10 in nine with Matthews, but the Kiwi has decided to change things up again.

Ko has a history of short-term stints with her bag carriers, having had nine since turning professional in 2013, with the longest coming with Jason Hamilton, who helped the 19-year-old climb to the world's top spot and with it 10 tournament titles.

Two-thousand-eight Masters champion Trevor Immelman told the Golf Channel it's hard to knock Ko given her results.

"For all we know this is her secret and it is working for her. It's a very interesting situation, but at this point it's very hard to second guess her," says Immelman.

"If I was in her team I would definitely be asking for a little bit of consistency, but I think we need to see how the next few months play out - at least until the end of the year - before we can really judge how all these changes have panned out."

Ko has a few weeks off before heading to Texas for her next tournament, starting on April 27, as she looks to continue her 77-week reign as the world's number one female golfer.
