Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko will hold onto her world number one ranking for now, despite a disappointing final day at the latest LPGA Tour event in Virginia.

Ko started the day tied for third, but a two-over par 73 left her in a share of tenth after the final round.

The 20-year old led South Korean rival So Yeon Ryu by less than a point in the rankings heading into the tournament, but Ryu also finished on seven-under par, not enough to overtake Ko.

Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn needed to finish seventh or better to take over at the top, however she ended up tied for 19th.

Ko is now taking a three week break, returning for the Meijer LGPA Classic on June 15. She could lose her spot if Ryu and Jutanugarn play the next three tournaments the New Zealander will miss.
