Mumbai Indians defend IPL crown with dramatic last over win over Stephen Fleming's Rising Pune Supergiants

The Mumbai Indians have won the Indian Premier League after a thrilling one-run victory against the Rising Pune Supergiants in Hyderabad.

Chasing 130 to win, the Supergiants were on track for victory thanks to a composed knock from Australian skipper Steve Smith.

But when he fell for 51, it was advantage Mumbai, the match coming down to the final ball with the Supergiants needing four runs for victory.

All-rounder Dan Christian couldn't find the boundary however, handing Mumbai their third IPL title.

Kiwi paceman Mitchell McClenaghan missed the final through injury, making it a nerve-racking watch for the Mumbai bowler.

"I couldn't sit still, I went up and down the stairs 15, 16 times, but it shows the class and the depth of the squad," said Blackcaps player.

He added, "Massive team effort, so proud of the guys, and geez, it's going to be unbelievable tonight."

The left-armer took an impressive 19 wickets in the tournament, the fourth highest wicket taker.

Fellow Blackcap Lockie Ferguson bowled two overs for the Supergiants in the defeat, going wicketless and conceding 21 runs.
