Piers Francis, Michael Collins named in Blues side to play Chiefs

Blues first five Piers Francis will line up for the Blues against the Chiefs on Friday after recovering from what looked to be a serious head injury suffered against the Stormers in Cape Town last weekend.

Francis was knocked out by a shot from Stormers centre Shaun Treeby before he was driven off the field on a medicab.

Treeby was cited after the match and copped a three week ban from Sanzaar.

According to the Blues, Francis suffered a "transient loss of consciousness" on the field following the hit.

However after further assessment by the team's medical staff after the match, the 26-year-old was cleared of any concussion symptoms and subsequently cleared to line-up against the Chiefs.

"A complete concussion assessment including a neurological exam, symptom assessment, cervical spine exam, balance assessment, coordination testing and neuro-cognitive testing via SCAT III and computerized CogSport testing were all normal", a statement read.

Elsewhere on the park, Patrick Tuipolotu returns to the starting line-up in place of Gerard Cowley-Tuioti while Michael Collins slots back in to fullback in place of Melani Nanai who drops out of the side altogether.

Bryn Gatland also falls out of the side after an indifferent showing in Cape Town, with Stephen Perofeta set to make his Blues debut off the bench.
