Team New Zealand are through to the Louis Vuitton challenger finals after winning two of three races on a busy day, against Sir Ben Ainslie and Land Rover BAR.

The Kiwi crew dominated the third-race, bouncing back from a sloppy performance against the Brits an hour earlier.

The New Zealanders dominated from mark-to-mark after Burling out-thought Ainslie at the start.

Sir Ben Ainslie and his BAR crew sailed a near perfect race two when facing elimination to close the gap to the Kiwis to 4-2 with one race left on Friday.

The British never trailed after pipping the New Zealand boat at the first mark and sailed away to take a 20 second victory.

Earlier Team New Zealand came from behind to comfortably beat the British boat and go within one race of eliminating Sir Ben Ainslie's team.

In perfect conditions in Bermuda, Peter Burling and his crew trailed until the fifth leg, before cruising home to win by 31 seconds.

The Kiwis led their best-of-nine series 4-1 following a come-from-behind win in which their boat showed good speed in mid-range wind conditions of about 15 knots.

That will be some relief after the AC50 catamaran was damaged when it capsized in the pre-start of their most recent race two days earlier.

Repairs appear to have the boat functioning well, with excellent speed and control a feature of their fight to overhaul a 26-second deficit at the start line.

Helmsman Peter Burling appeared to almost gift British opposite Ainslie the lead and set about chipping away at it.

The biggest gains were made on leg five upwind, turning a nine-second deficit into a 21-second lead before going on to win by 31 seconds.

The other semi-final is evenly poised between Sweden and Japan.

Team Japan lead the Swedish syndicate, helmed by Australian Olympic gold medallist Nathan Outteridge, 3-2 after Artemis won the first of three races on day 13.

The winner of the challengers' decider will face Team USA, skippered by Australia's Jimmy Spithill, in the final.
