Rugby league great Wendell Sailor has hit out at Warriors coach Stephen Kearney, saying he isn't a NRL coach.

The call comes as more pressure is heaped onto Kearney after the Warriors failed to impress against an injury-hit Parramatta Eels on Friday night, losing 32-24 in Sydney.

Speaking on Triple M, Sailor said Kearney can't seem to get the best out of the struggling Warriors.

"No disrespect to Stephen Kearney, but I have a look at what he's done as a coach, and at Parramatta I know it was tough there, but sometimes you have to look at the coach as well," said Sailor.

"I don't know that he's an NRL coach, and I know that's a bit harsh.

"He was a good assistant at Melbourne and at the Broncos, but it just seems that he can't get the best out of his team.

"We always say that the players need to be held accountable, but I just don't know that the transition from a rep coach to an NRL coach has worked for Stephen Kearney."

After last night's loss, the Warriors sit four points outside the top eight, with five wins and eight losses.

Meanwhile, former Kiwis captain and Eels prop Nathan Cayless believes the match was a missed opportunity for the Warriors to nab crucial points during the middle of the season.

"There is too much inconstancy with the type of football they play and they are making simple errors and allowing simple times crucial times," Cayless told RadioLIVE.

"They gave themselves a chance to win the game at the end but if they make the right play, they might have scraped home so they have given themselves the opportunities.

"They have a healthy roster and they need to pick up as many points as possible during the origin period.

"They are running out of time but it is important for them to build momentum and get some confidence."

Cayless also believes the Warriors are yet to see the best of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck who has had a mixed season so far.

"Roger is coming back from a very serious injury and it will take a while for him to get his confidence back.

"They can take two years to recover from. They are running out of time but it is important for them to build momentum and get some confidence.

"The more footy he plays he will get better and better."

The Warriors will look to snap their away hoodoo when they travel to the Gold Coast to face the Titans next Saturday.
