Kiwi free-skier Jossi Wells hopeful of being fit for 2018 Winter Olympics

New Zealand's top free-skier Jossi Wells remains hopeful he'll be on the start line at the next Winter Olympics.

The Wanaka-based athlete ruptured his left knee last month in California, just four months after injuring his other patella in Norway.

"When I crashed and I felt the patella, I thought 'not the other patella'," Wells said.

Wells has had knee trouble since he was 15 and in 2013 underwent experimental stem cell surgery to try and fix the problem. He also broke his neck in 2014.

His latest injury puts him in doubt for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang County, South Korea in February.

However the X-Games gold medallist remains upbeat despite the setback.

"It should be a six month rehab," Wells said.

"That gives me six weeks of prep before the Games, which is achievable if I approach my rehab with everything I have."
