Kiwi pole vault star Eliza McCartney has returned from injury to win her event at an athletics meet in Belgium.

The 20-year-old's been troubled by tendonitis in her Achilles tendon and hasn't been able to train at full capacity, beginning to doubt if she'd be able to compete at next month's world champs.

However, the Olympic bronze-medallist looked to be approaching her best at the 'Night of Athletics meet on Sunday morning (NZT) as she cleared 4.61 metres, outdoing her nearest rival by 10 centimetres.

She proceeded to attempt to clear 4.72m but was unsuccessful in doing so, indicating there's still plenty of room for improvement remaining after earlier this year clearing a personal best of 4.82m at the Auckland Track Challenge.

The win is a highly encouraging one for McCartney, who had previously revealed it would be her performance at this meet which would be the litmus test for her participation at the world champs in London.
