Senior Black Caps batsman Ross Taylor's returned to New Zealand from his English county, for family reasons.

Taylor's been the captain of the Sussex Sharks during all 13 matches in the T-Twenty Blast in the UK.

Coach Mark Davis has passed on his best wishes to Taylor and his family.

He's not sure if the 33 year old will return in time for the playoffs, if they qualify.

Wicketkeeper and club captain Ben Brown is set to take over as skipper.

Taylor's been struggling with the bat for the Sharks, making just 177 runs from his 12 knocks, with a high score of 47.
