Tottenham have kicked off their new season with a 2-0 win against a 10-man Newcastle at St James' Park.
The newly-promoted northern side lost defender Jonjo Shelvey to a red card after he appeared to mindlessly stomp Spurs' Delle Ali on the ankle in the 49th minute.
The incident swung the momentum of the game as Ali responded minutes later with the contest's opening goal, before defender Ben Davies finished off a well-constructed move to seal the contest in the 70th minute.
