Joseph Parker oozing confidence ahead of Hughie Fury fight, promises knockout

Joseph Parker is oozing in self-confidence ahead of his WBO heavyweight title defence against Hughie Fury in Manchester.

The odds are against the 25-year-old, who's going up against a bigger opponent fighting in front of his home crowd.

But the Kiwi says this is his time to announce himself as a legit threat in the division, in the country of the cream of the heavyweight crop.

"I feel like this is a fight where I have to make a statement," Parker told The AM Show.

"I have trained very hard for this fight and it's been a great training camp. I feel like I'm in great shape I feeling the best I have ever felt in my career."

The UK is home to IBF and WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua as well as perianal contenders such as David Haye, Dillian Whyte and Tony Bellew.

A strong performance from Parker would put him in the mix for a big payday against one of them.

Parker said he has never been in better fighting shape and is planning on giving his fans a Sunday morning (NZ time) treat, when he stops the 23-year-old challenger.

"I'm looking for the knockout. Hopefully I can catch him on the chin or maybe the liver. If you tell me what you want, then I'll do it," he told Duncan Garner.

"If the country wants him on the canvas then I'm going to make it happen. I'm going to knock him out.

"I'm feeling great. I have trained hard I feel strong, fast and powerful. I'm looking forward to putting a bash on someone."

The two heavyweight sluggers went face-to-face at the final pre-fight press conference at the home of Manchester United, Old Trafford.

Parker said he saw fear in the eyes of Fury.

"I saw his body shaking a little, he took a big swallow when I saw him in the face-off. I feel he is talking a big game to give himself confidence.

"I feel confident in my own ability when I go in there I am going to chase him down, get him in the corner and give him a bash and a beating."

Parker's 24th professional fight against Fury will be his first in the United Kingdom.

Parker v Fury is available on Sky Arena, 8am Sunday September 24.
