Kiwi Chris Wood nets goal for Burnley in losing effort against former club Leeds United in League Cup

Kiwi striker Chris Wood has scored again for Burnley, this time in a losing effort in their League Cup tie against his former club, Leeds United.

Wood's calmly-slotted penalty in the 89th minute looked to have salvaged a draw for the clarets until the northerners nabbed a contentious spot kick four minutes into added time at Turf Moor.

The action wasn't done there, with Robbie Brady curling in a free-kick in the final minute of play to bring the honours back to even and force extra time.

With no further goals the sides went to a penalty shootout, where the All Whites captain blasted his sole attempt home.

Leeds' goalkeeper Andy Lonergan then saved James Tarkowski's effort, which proved enough to seal the win for his side who now advance to the final 16.

Currently eighth on the Premier League ladder, Burnley return to action at home against Huddersfield on Sunday (NZT).
