Northland slaughter Southland in Invercargill Mitre 10 Cup clash

Northland have won their second match of the Mitre 10 Cup season, crushing Southland 44-13 in Invercargill.

The Taniwha scored six tries to one to secure the bonus-point win at Rugby Park.

Northland led 22-6 at the break thanks to tries from Jack Goodhue, Jordan Hyland and Sam Nock.

The away side scored a further three tries in the second half, through outside backs Jone Macila, Solomona Alaimalo and hooker Joan Olson.

Southland scored their only try in the 69th minute through Aleki Morris.

With the win, Northland have more wins after three games (two) this season than the entire last two seasons combined (one).

It was also their first win away from home since September 25, 2014 when they beat Bay of Plenty 30-27.

Meanwhile, Southland remain winless after three games in 2017.

Northland will host Waikato in their next match, while Southland will face Canterbury in a Ranfurly Shield clash.
