Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox has called out a spectator on Twitter after a frustrating first round at the Italian Open.

Fox is tied 67th after the opening round after shooting a one-under par 70, but an incident during his round has fired up the 30-year-old.

On the par-4 eighth hole, a fan took his ball which forced him to receive a two-shot penalty and record a double bogey.

Fox called out the spectator and said he would happily have given them the ball after he finished his hole.

The Kiwi is eight shots behind first place which has six players currently on seven-under.

Meanwhile World No.9 Lydia Ko has made a bright start to the latest LPGA Tour event in South Korea.

The 20-year-old Kiwi mixed six birdies with two bogeys for an opening round four-under, to sit in a share of ninth place. Australia's Minjee Lee was in a three-way tie for the lead at six-under-par along with Min Sun Kim and Sung Hyun Park.

Ko is still searching for her first LPGA event since July 2016.

Danny Lee has only managed to tie 60th place in a mixed first round at Kuala Lumpur's US PGA tournament.

Two bogies, two double-bogies and a triple-bogey - combined with eight birdies - have left him on a one-over-par 73, nine shots off leader Cameron Smith of Australia.

It is his first tournament in a month, after he pulled out of BMW Championship in Illinois due to a back injury last month.
