Roger Federer has beaten world no.1 Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-4 6-3 in the Shanghai Masters final to capture his sixth title of the year on Sunday.

It was a vintage performance by the Swiss maestro, who claimed his fourth win over the Spaniard this year.

With the win, Federer notched his 700th match victory on hard courts and improved to 10-1 against the Top 10 this year.

However the 19-time Grand Slam winner still trails Nadal 23-15 in their overall head-to-head series, and Federer doesn't rate his chances of catching Nadal in their head-to-head record.

"It's not going to happen. We don't have enough years left on the tour. We ranked too good so we play each other only in finals at the moment... You can't win them all against Rafa, to be honest. He's too good of a player," Federer said.

The 36-year-old said he felt confident heading into the match which helped him put on a clinic against his rival.

"I had no nerves really before the match, which was nice," said Federer.

"I was pretty clear about how I wanted to play the match. And then I came out and started off very well.

"I Felt relaxed from then on. I always know that Rafa can come back at any moment if he connects well, picks the right sides, and does the right things.
