Wellington first-five Jackson Garden-Bachop has signed with the Hurricanes until the end of the 2019 Super Rugby season.

The twenty-three-year-old joins the franchise following his debut Super Rugby season with the Melbourne Rebels in 2017.

Garden-Bachop was a regular starter for the Australian side, but will now face stiff competition in the likes of All Black Beauden Barrett and new recruit from the Blues, Ihaia West.

The signing comes after Garden-Bachop enjoyed an impressive season with the Lions, where he was named Wellington’s player of the year on Monday.

Garden-Bachop featured in every Championship game for the province, and has scored 109 points leading into his side’s semi-final clash with Northland on Friday.

The two-year deal has the former New Zealand School’s representative excited to remain in the nation’s capital.

"I'm really happy to be settled in my home town and able to play my provincial and Super Rugby in one place and in my hometown and close to my family," he said.

"Growing up in Wellington I always dreamed of playing for the Hurricanes, so I'm pretty happy to this opportunity.

"The Hurricanes have some world class players, especially in my position and I'm looking forward to learning off and working alongside players like Beauden Barrett."
