Anthony Joshua fires back at Joseph Parker's attempts to 'demonise' him

Anthony Joshua has lashed out at Joseph Parker over what he believes are attempts to "demonise" his reputation in order to earn a title unification fight.

The WBO heavyweight champion and his promoters Duco have been vocal in their efforts to secure a title unification bout against the Briton, who holds both the IBF and WBA heavyweight belts.

At a press conference last month they offered cash for any footage of Joshua being knocked down during sparring and amateur fights as a response to what they believe are unfair financial offers on a potential bout.

The 28-year-old has criticised Parker and his team's taunts, accusing them of " a lack of respect" and "trying to mislead the public's opinion."

"I think it's not nice, I don't really respect it and I have no time for it," Joshua told BBC Sport. "What's he trying? Be the big bully? Demonise everything I have done?"

"In Formula 1, golf, tennis, rugby, they are very classy people, respectable about their peers.

"Then you have people like Joseph Parker holding a press conference talking about everything he thinks I am."

Duco CEO David Higgins has insisted Parker will not accept anything less than a 35% share of the revenue of any potential bout between the two.

However Joshua claims the New Zealander and his team are too focussed on the monetary aspects of the fight.

"This is the first time in my career where the talk has been about money," added Joshua. "That's what's holding it up.

"With Klitschko it wasn't about the money, it was about getting the fight together for the belts. With Parker it's a different story, and Wilder.

"No disrespect for them, they have their reasons, but I feel like the fans are not getting what they want."

Should the fight go ahead, WBC title holder Deontay Wilder would be the logical next step for either with the opportunity to consolidate all four major heavyweight belts.

"It would have been great to have it pencilled in now but it will happen in the future once they come to their senses.

"What they are offering is nothing, and what we are offering is 10 times better than what they can bring up themselves."
