Peru’s been fined over $18,000 NZD by football’s governing body FIFA, after their controversial tactics in South America.

Fans shone lasers onto the faces of some of the All Whites’ players during their World Cup qualifying loss in Lima.

The fine includes punishments for a delayed kick-off, a pitch invasion by the local media after the historic victory, and for handing over their team sheet late.

The lasers were just one of a string of distractions the All Whites faced, including witch doctors placing a curse on them, a noisy fireworks display outside their hotel in the middle of the night, and a couple of Air Force jets flying past their accommodation.

The hefty sum will be of little concern to the Peruvians, who are celebrating heading to the World Cup for the first time since 1982. They’ve been drawn in Group C, alongside France, Australia and Denmark.

New Zealand Football escaped with just warnings after the FIFA Disciplinary Committee reviewed two incidents in the country.

They were cited for a delayed kick-off in their clash with Papua New Guinea in June, and for their fans throwing paper darts during their match with the Solomon Islands in September.
