IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe forced to pee himself during race

The call of nature waits for no man - just ask IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe.

The Canadian was forced into the most desperate of measures in Monday's (NZ time) race in Alabama, resorting to relieving himself in the cockpit of his car during what he described as "the least comfortable experience" of his life.

"I was sitting there during that first red just begging for three minutes, that's all you need," said Hinchcliffe, referring to the first of two rain-enforced stoppages.

The delay lasted a total of 37 excruciating minutes, leaving Hinchcliffe teetering on the brink as the race recommenced.

"When we got going again my legs were shaking I had to go so bad. I said, 'I can't drive a race car like this.'

"So under caution it took me a full lap, it was one of the least comfortable experiences of my entire life. You're talking to a man who just wet himself."

Ultimately the race was stopped a second time after just four laps of caution, meaning Hinchcliffe may well have been able to save himself from a sodden firesuit.

"I can officially say I've joined the ranks of Will Power and Dario Franchitti and other greats that have peed themselves in their suits."

The wet weather continued to cause havoc, the race eventually postponed until Tuesday (NZT).
