The Warriors walked away with a 24-14 win over the Parramatta Eels on Friday night, but forward Tohu Harris knows his side has to improve if they want to compete with the best.

The Penrose club bounced back from their shutout by the Roosters last week to claim their eighth win of the season, against the struggling Eels.

The Warriors dominated the first half and held a 12-2 lead at the break, but the Eels came out firing in the second and eventually got back into the match and led 14-12 with 19 minutes to play.

With their backs against the wall, hooker Issac Luke rallied the troops down the stretch and scored the match-winning try as they walked away with the two points.

But Harris knows the Warriors shouldn't have let the Eels back into the match after such a strong start.

"We worked hard, especially at the end of the first half, to keep them out with one less player, and we spoke about coming out with that same energy, but I thought they did a better job of that," Harris told NRL.com.

"They came out more aggressive, and that is a huge improvement we need to make. We can't let teams back into the game like that and looking forward we have to improve on that."

The win saw the Warriors claimed their eighth win of the season - eclipsing their 2017 record, barely less than halfway through this current season.

Coach Stephen Kearney praised his side's resilience for getting themselves back into the contest despite missing key duo Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Shaun Johnson.

Tuivasa-Sheck was a late withdrawal as he awaits the birth of his first child, while Johnson is sidelined with an ankle injury.

"We've had a pretty tough couple of weeks in terms of our personnel and not having most of the spine there together, and Roger giving him until the last minute and then him pulling out," Kearney said.

"To come here tonight and I thought we opened up pretty well in the first half, and then we had a man in the bin just before halftime.

"They came after us in the second half, and we got behind there but the guys just stuck at it. They were trying to keep their season alive, so for the guys to win under the circumstances I thought it was really pleasing.

"I just thought it was a real show of character from the group tonight."

The New Zealand internationals are expected to return for the Warriors next clash against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Mt Smart Stadium.

The Warriors beat the Bunnies 34-20 in Perth back in round one, but since then the Sydney club has been on a roll and currently sit fifth on the NRL ladder.

The Auckland-based outfit is currently in a three-way tie atop the NRL standings on 16 points alongside the Penrith Panthers and St George Illawarra Dragons.
