A 25-year-old Australian detainee deported to New Zealand has been arrested for burglary.
The man was picked up in Hamilton at lunch time today.
Police say he had gone into a home but fled when the alarm went off. He was then tracked down by dog handlers.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
Police say the man had recently moved over from Australia and was part of the detainee contingent that was deported.
There is no word what his charges were or where in Australia the man was based, but 3 News understands he wasn't on Christmas Island.
The man spent the afternoon talking to police and appeared before court on burglary charges.
It is believed this is the first arrest since the detainees were sent back to New Zealand.
